0000 hrs, and all is well

The Tall Man

Inactive
Twice a year, my professional responsibilities require the investment of my presence beyond normal working hours. Whilst in this grand old building, I remain 'safe' in the modern sense. However, the city's denizens of the dark remain just outside my window.

At app. 10:30pm EST Thursday evening, the unmistakable sounds of a double tap announced themselves through my office window. Lovely.

After I reassured myself that my .380 remained close at hand, and would remain accessible in my motorcycle jacket's gun pocket upon my departure, I gave the matter little thought.

The state of readiness is nothing more than a prudent response to circumstances.

My commute home at 0015 was chilly but uneventful. I'm going to ask for an electric vest for Christmas. Those of you who ride motorcycles can appreciate the utility of this particular garment.

Although I am typing this while suffering from a lack of REM sleep, I am still in possession of the warm fuzzy that being armed when I really wanted to be armed gave me.

Carry on, my wayward sons. :)

Nice post, Tall Man, sounds like the start of a Dashiell Hammett novel. All you need is a fifth of bourbon and a mysterious blonde. :)

Ride safe, brother!

I remember one winter I rode from St George Utah all the way up to Vernal, Utah.
This is normally a nice ride.
When your frozen gloves no longer let you release your grip on the bars... it's no longer so much fun - the ride just became an Adventure!

My knees where frozen, hands frozen, chilled to the bone...
But when I got my helmet peeled off - Ear to ear grin. Winter riding on a crotch-rocket is a whole differnt ballgame.

I tell ya, I'm about due for a new bike. The old Honda VF1000R is just not quite what I want anymore. Practicality sorta dictates an ST1100, but it's kinda dull and costs too much. The new Aprilia Falco is just flat out bitchin', but, once again, costs too much. Then there's that rumor of the new Yamaha naked R1. This has possibilities if it makes it's price point of $8500, assuming it can keep 2nd gear in the tranny...

Anyway, that's the view from here after 3am and about four Coronas...
