0 Tolerence = 0

Just finished reading my morning news rag. Read about the Bobby Knight incident and His Zero Tolerence Agreement. Now I'm not sticking up for him and his actions, but this got me to thinking about this Zero Tolerence Crap. Its a phrase that I would like to see erased from the vocabulary of America. It is my opinion that 0 Tolerence = 0 Common Sense = 0 Brains. Lets anyone with a grudge or an axe to grind throw the pork to someone.
The lad in Georgia who was a Boy Scout expelled because he had his camp axe and something else related locked in his trunk. Someone ratted him out. 0 Tolerence policy takes over and he is expelled and loses driving privlidges. Horsecrap.
How about the 0 Tolerence policy that made a school principal run a half a block to retrieve his gun to stop a students shooting spree? And this one hits close to home, You all may remember my sons Malicious Forking Incident? 0 Tolerence Policy almost dictated outcome of that fiasco. I stepped in and raised royal he** and a lawsuit.
Can't anyone think for themselves anymore and take a situation for what its worth and decide what to do with it after the facts are known. "Nothing But the Facts" I think my hero of the day Joe Friday use to say that.
Has this country totally evolved into a society of mindless crying weenies who can"t think for themselves and has to have some mindless lame policy to dictate their mindless thoughts for them? Oh he grabbed my little Johnnies arm = 0 Tolerence to kick in
Oh my little Johnnie saw that evil target .22 in his trunk when he opened it up to throw in his books and sports gear. 0 Tolerence to gain another victim .
I think I'm going to start a 0 Tolerence Policy against the Mindless,Stupid and the Moronic
OK guys have at it but this crap just burns my backside.
Just my morning rant  Not enough caffene yet.

To answer your question, yes, the country has.

And the Eagle Scout was suspended from school because he had an axe with a broken handle in his trunk, and a Swiss army knife and a cellular phone locked in his glove box. All three, banned on school property.

God, Guns and Guts made this country a great country!

Zero tolerance is a very poor excuse for justice. Every situation has extenuating circumstances that need to be taken into account.

With Zero Tolerance laws applied, all authorities can easily say: "It's out of my hands - I can't do anything!", therefore they are not held responsible for the decision.

We should all have Zero Tolerance for Zero Tolerance laws, and speak out at every available opportunity!

I am for Zero Tolerance of Criminal activity. I am dead against blanket Zero Tol. policies as we have them set up. The problem is that blanket policies are real easy for the beurocRATS to deal with. They require no thought process, something they are perfectly suited for. We have become the pass the buck nation, and these policies allow the school admin. to pass the buck on and on and on...

0 tolerence was introduced to have uniformed enforcement of various rules & laws across the city, state or nation. The problem was that different judges, district attornies, etc., would enforce the laws different. So, 0 tolerence was introduced.

But as you correctly pointed out, 0 tolerance = 0 brains because it take common sense out of the picture. A two teenage girls can walk into any drug store in the country and one girl can legally buy a bottle of aspirin and then she can legally give some to her friend.

But if she does the same thing in school, she will be treated the same as if she handed her friend some crack under the school's 0 tolerence drug policy. There's something seriously wrong with that picture. You CAN'T take justice and plug it into a formula -- you have to consider the human element.

"Yes, maybe I was illegally carrying a firearm but my ex-husband/boyfriend has made violent threats and I am fearful of my life/safety."

Just like human beings come in all different shapes, sizes & colors, every situation is different and needs to be looked at seperately.

"Did he bring a pocket knife to school? Yes. Did he threaten anyone with it or make any threats about doing harm to anyone? No. Has there been any behaviorable problems with him? No. Well, maybe he really did bring the pocket knife in to carve his apple for eating during lunch."

FUD,very well said,And TAZ I do agree with it as far as the criminal element goes. The true intent as long as proven justified. Not across the board OK no matter what you did stuff. Just as everything else it has just gotten to far out of hand and makes it to easy for someone not to take resposibility or blame for their actions. ;)

I live in the city with the boyscout incident. I think it's just a way for the bureorcrats not to get in trouble for racism. It's a no win situation.

There was another incident where a teacher, a good one that was teacher of the year or something, had her car searched w/o a warrant or even her presence and they found a roach. She did not believe in things like unconstitional searches and such and did not take a drug screen till she talked to a lawyer. Anyway, she was fired and lost several appeals.

What I don't understand is the "logic" behind the expelling of a student (like the Eagle Scout) for a period of one year under this policy. Now, they do this to "teach" a lesson but what lesson are they teaching? If you do this then we want you out on the street to do whatever you wish for a period of one year. That you will graduate a year later (if you decide to go back to school) and be behind your friends. That you are the bane of society and should continue with another form of education (namely running the streets)? Or how about the "alternative" schools? You, a good student who got shafted by the 0 tolerance policy, is put into a "jail" type situation with other kids who are considering a career in crime. What do you learn? How to get the crap beat out of you? How to continue your criminal education? How to do things just to fit into this situation without getting the crap beat out of you (which probably includes learning how to beat the crap out of others)?

Hell, I am considering going back to school in the near future. I go target shooting (or try to) on a weekly basis. I have loose ammo and brass all throughout my car. I'm STILL finding spent brass from months back. Under this dumb 0 tolerance policy, I could be expelled or even jailed.... what idiots!
